Brian Meixner, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Brian Meixner, originally from Macomb, Illinois, is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Slippery Rock University where he teaches studio low brass and class brass, and is the conductor of the brass ensemble and the university wind ensemble.  Brian also plays euphonium full time with the River City Brass Band and has been featured with the band on several performances. In addition to his duties with the RCBB, Brian plays trombone with  the River City 6, a brass  sextet composed of members from the brass band. Prior to his time in Pennsylvania, Brian taught studio low brass at the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Woman’s University.  He also served as the Euphonium Teaching Fellow, Director of the 7 O’clock Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, and Associate Conductor of the Brass Band at the University of North Texas.  While at UNT, Brian was voted the “Most Outstanding Graduate Student in Brass” in 2005.  

Brian has participated actively as a performer and conductor of various university and professional ensembles, including his duties as conductor and music director of the Myriad Brass Orchestra.    His previous ensemble performing experience includes the Dallas Wind Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony Tuba Quartet, Lexington Brass Band, Georgia Brass Band, Saxton’s Cornet Band, Four Horsemen Tuba Quartet, North Texas Euphonium Quartet, North Texas Wind Symphony, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, and Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra.  Brian has also been featured as a euphonium artist and clinician with various universities, community bands, high school ensembles, brass bands, and music conferences throughout the United States.

Brian Meixner’s education includes a Master's and Doctoral degree in Euphonium Performance from the University of North Texas, a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Western Illinois University where he studied with Dr. Brian Bowman, Dr. Skip Gray and Dr. Hugo Magliocco respectively.  

Brian has numerous competition successes to his credit, including First Prize at the North American Brass Band Association’s Technical Solo Competition and runner-up at the prestigious Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Competition.  Brian Meixner can be heard on his solo euphonium compact disc Genesis.  This recording has received rave reviews and includes works for euphonium with piano, wind ensemble and tuba/euphonium ensemble.
